This elliptical shaped stylus tracks grooves much better than it’s OEM conical one. Since it is still 0.7 mils wide but only 0.3 mils deep, it more accurately reproduces the undulating LP grooves. I learned this many decades ago during the LP “heyday”. ALL high end stylii are elliptical, so as soon as I purchased my ION turntable I did not use it until I had ordered one of these to replace the original conical one. I just purchased a backup stylus here while they are available.
