The AT-XP5 is specially designed for the needs of DJs. This cartridge features a highly-rigid polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)/glass fiber body and a tracking force of 2 to 4 grams. All Goldring 2000 series cartridges feature Moving Iron technology. This lends them the high levels of detail associated with more expensive moving coil designs whilst retaining the convenience of a replaceable stylus and high output associated with moving magnet types. The cartridge employs a fixed samarium cobolt magnet and high output coil combination so that a very light iron/nickel cantilever end-piece can be used instead of the much heavier permanent magnet used in conventional designs. This reduces the moving mass allowing the stylus to trace the record groove more faithfully. Because of their high output, Goldring 2000 series cartridges should be used with the standard moving magnet phono input of an integrated amplifier.
The 2500 uses a nude, square shank, natural diamond stylus in a diagonal orientation with a proprietary 2SD line-contact profile. The stylus only contacts the groove wall along the short radius ridges which are so fine that it can accurately trace details down to 4 microns – enough for replay of quadraphonic records. Because the contact area is elongated along the complete side wall of the groove it is twice that of an ordinary elliptical stylus; mid-range tonality is incredibly accurate and precise and any high frequency sibilance or distortion is banished.
